Long Distance Triathlon to continue in Australia’s Capital

Australia’s premier LD Triathlon in the ACT is set to return for a record 16th edition in 2014!

X-Tri Events, the team behind 35+ half Ironman distance races, and organisers of the 2006 ITU World LD Championships, has re-branded their Canberra based endurance triathlon as the X-Tri LDT “Canberra, and the all new triathlon action in the nation’s capital event is set for 14th December 2014.

Racing in the nation’s capital is open to every triathlete, aged 18 years and over, in either individual or relay team entries that will be accepted from both Triathlon Australia members and non-members too.

TA Members should note that they have exclusive rights within this event to gain points for qualification to the Australian team to the World Champs in 2016.

And the 2014 edition will see a race that returns to its roots with a great value for money event staged on a sensational course and a race distance that has been tweaked to provide a unique and accurate 2km swim, 92 km bike ride (on what is arguably the very best, fastest bike course ever in Canberra!) and a 20km run across a course that will retain a great familiarity for many returning athletes.

Importantly the race will continue to start and finish in the famed Commonwealth Park at the Rond Terraces; scene of the very best triathlon racing in Canberra for 20 years.

In returning to its roots, the race will also once again boast an open category, replacing the pro division, allowing the fastest age group athletes to literally race alongside pro-triathletes for the outright race results, something not seen in Australia for some years.

The aim of organisers, X-Tri Events, is to return this event to the great years of triathlon, with a look and feel that promotes camaraderie, becomes a great event with which to promote club and squad racing (there will be a Club ‘Corral’ for club / squad tents and meeting places) and is a race the age grouper triathlete can make their very ‘own’. The weekend will also be designed to be fun as well as competitive. Expect a race that will act as an ultimate challenge to all who enter.

Experience the challenge of Canberra:

The single lap, fresh water lake swim is swum in the historic Anzac Reach of Lake Burley Griffin, and starts from Commonwealth Park directly opposite the final goal, the Rond Terrace finish line.

The bike pedals from the Rond Terraces up Parkes Way through the CBD of Canberra on fast freeway roads and into the smooth back roads of the ACT countryside, over a three-lap closed course, before re-entering Commonwealth Park and heading into a three-lap run within the parklands that takes athletes past many ACT icons.

The finish line is placed in line with the Canberra War Memorial, whilst across the lake are the new and old Parliament houses; a stunning back drop to a challenging race promising the ultimate triathlon experience.

The official hotel for the event will be the Crowne Plaza Hotel, also the closest accommodation property to the race venue.

X-Tri Events:

X-Tri events have been synonymous with Long Distance triathlon racing since 1999 with continuous racing in Yeppoon and Canberra since that time and also in Singapore from 2006-2012.

In 2005 the company made a solo bid to bring the ITU World LD Championships to Australia; won and presented the event to the world in November of 2006 in Canberra.

X-Tri has worked through principals Nick Munting and Graeme Hannan to introduce new triathlon events, and revamp old ones, in both NSW and Victoria and presently manages the national Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon program over 12 events around Australia.

The company also runs the mass participation The Color Run in both Australia and New Zealand.

See you in December…
