So it’s true. Ariane Monticeli has tested positive to EPO, a banned performance enhancer. There’s been plenty of rumours and flying around the social channels over this last week however we can all rest now as the Brazilian triathlete has confirmed that she has been doping. There’s still no offical word from WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) or Ironman however Monticeli decided to speak out before the offical release came about exclusively to MundoTri.com.
It was on the eve of Ironman 70.3 Buenos Aires and like other professional athletes, Monticeli was subject to standard anti-doping controls.
On the eve of Ironman Brazil, Monticeli was informed that her sample tested positive for EPO (Erythropoietin), a substance known to increase athletes’ performance and was prevented from starting.
Monticeli agreed to speak via a letter to MundoTri.com and she asked that it be published in full along with the results of the anti-doping test.
