Race 1 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series 2011/12 at Catani Gardens in St Kilda on Sunday 20th November 2011, is on track to be a hotly contested race. Defending series champion Madeleine Oldfield, will be back to defend her title against a host of in-form talent – the event’s biggest pro field for a series opener. Chris McCormack was the only Australian to finish today’s Dextro Energy ITU Triathlon Elite Men’s World Champion Grand Final race as the Australian team fought its own war of attrition in Beijing today. It was a tough day in the office for the Australian men’s team who lost rising star Brendan Sexton on the morning of the race with a nasty gastro bug which also added to the early retirement of Beijing Olympian Brad Kahlefeldt after the first run lap.

Australia has come from behind to claim a top ten finish in the ITU World Teams Triathlon Championship in Lausanne tonight – finishing seventh in the event that looks almost certain to be included in the 2016 Olympic Games. Their seventh place came after being well back early with Australia’s second team of Felicity Abram, Peter Kerr, Felicity Sheedy-Ryan and Mitch Robins finishing in 13th place.

Australia’s Brad Kahlefeldt has continued to put himself in a prime position for Olympic selection after a determined eighth-placed finish in today’s ITU Dextro Energy Triathlon World Championship race on a rain-swept Olympic course in London. Kahlefeldt was followed today by fellow Australians Brendan Sexton (31st), Aaron Royle (45th) James Seear (53rd) & Chris McCormack who was a DNF early in the bike and who will return to Australia for treatment to his nagging hamstring.

Australia’s Brad Kahlefeldt has scored a stunning victory to win the Dextro Energy ITU Triathlon World Championship Series round in Hamburg today. Fellow Australians Brendan Sexton, Dan Wilson and the 38-year-old comeback king Chris McCormack all performed well. McCormack well and truly justified his position on the team this weekend and showed what a true champion he is. Sexton had another great race for 19th overall.
