Ironman Australia 2012 entries open on Wednesday
General entry for the 2012 Ironman Australia event will open this Wednesday, May 11 at 12pm AEST. This years event sold out in just a few hours, and there is no reason to expect this year will be any different. So clear you diaries and make sure the kids are not planning on using the computer at lunchtime, and flex up your typing fingers.

Excitement is building as a stacked mens field gets ready for action in Port Macquarie. Can Patrick go 5 in a row, will Crowie take his first Australian title, has Jacobs got enough miles under his belt to reproduce his Kona form, will the 12 meter rule help Ogden get away on the bike, or will the Scot, Scott go one better than last year? It promises to be an interesting day.
Ironman Australia Port Macquarie and 70.3 Triathlon Course announced
Port Macquarie Hastings Council has announced that the 2011 Ironman Australia course will incorporate a two lap swim, a two lap bike leg and a four lap run. The main changes from previous years being an extension of the bike course which allows a reduction in the laps from 3 to 2, and the moving of the finish chute to Town Green. No doubt many competitors will be secretly relieved that they will have to tackle Matthew Flinders Drive one less time. The other main change will be the simultaneous running of the 70.3 race, which will also finish in Town Green, but will kick off 2hrs 30mins after the start of the ironman.
Ironman Australia sells out in just 8 hours.
In their first year of running the event World Triathlon Corporation (WTC )opened entries for the 2011 Port Macquarie Ironman exactly one year before the event at 12.00pm Saturday 1st May.With the field now restricted to just 1,000 competitors the event sold out within 8 hours leaving many potential competitors dissapointed.
Carrie Lester Wins her Debut Ironman at the Urban Hotel Group Ironman Australia Triathlon 2010
In tough conditions Carrie Lester has won her first Ironman in 9:23:46. Lester put in a fast bike leg to to exit T2 almost four minutes ahead of Lisa Marangon and was never troubled by any of the professional women in the run. Rebekah Keat finished in second place almost ten minutes further back in 9:33:10. Amelia Pearson did a solid 3:32:44 marathoon to finish in third place in 9:46:09.
Carrie Lester First Woman off the Bike at Ironman Australia Triathlon 2010
Carrie Lester has started the marathon at Ironman Australia triathlon 2010 almost four minutes ahead of Lisa Marangon. Rebekah Keat is currently a further three minutes back.
Vernay, Marceau, Ambrose & Neyedli First off the Bike at Ironman Australia Triathlon 2010
Patrick Vernay, Olivier Marceau, Paul Ambrose and Scott Neyedli were first of the bikes at Ironman Australia in a time of 4:42. Adrian Cominotto, who was first out of the water, was half a minute behind the leading group. Vernay is looking like being the triathlete to beat again this year after putting just over 7 minutes on Tim Berkel, Paul Barclay, Matt White, Joshua Rix, Adam Holborow and Jemani Francis.

Adrian Cominotto was the fastest swimmer at 44:32 in what is possibly a record swim for Ironman Australia. Two minutes seperated the top pros. Age Grouper Trent Champan swam the 4th fastest swim time to be right with the leaders.
Ironman Australia – Tony Abbott has Headed out on the 180km Bike Leg
Tony Abbott has completed the swim leg of Ironman Australia in 1:27 and is now out on the 180km bike leg. He was swarmed by media as he made his way through transition. Tony Abbott is supporting the McGrath Foundation and racing in distinctive pink cycling gear.
