Urban Hotel Group Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie Date Confirmed
WTC has confirmed that the Urban Hotel Group 70.3Port Macquarie race will be held on Sunday November 6th 2011. The event will double as the Australian Age Group Championship, with the winners of each age group receiving the opportunity to enter the sold out Ironman Australia in May 2012. Entries will open at 12pm (NOON) AEST on Saturday, July 23. The announcement was made after an agreement was signed between World Endurance Australia Pty Ltd (Ironman) and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.

Up and Coming Triathlete Luke Gillmer to make his Professional Debut at Port Macquarie 70.3
Making his 70.3 debut as a professional this weekend at Port Macquarie is Luke Gillmer. Luke has been meticulously planning this since coming back in to triathlons in 2006. After starting triathlons in Dubbo at the age of 14 and continuing until 18 Luke fell in love with the sport. At 18yrs university came around and no more triathlons happened until 2006 when he was challenged to do the Port Macquarie half ironman. This race took Luke just over 6 ½ hours.

Port Macquarie Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Mens Race Preview 2011
This year sees one of the strongest fields you will see in a 70.3 race in Australia. Tim Berkel won Challenge Copenhagen 2010, Joe Gambles was 4th at the 70.3 world champs amongst many wins and podiums in 2010, Christian Kemp won the 2010 Gold coast half, Tim Reed, Josh Rix, Matty White all had podiums at major 70.3 races in the USA. Leon Griffin has a great history and ten time winner of Ironman New Zealand Cameron Brown needs no introduction. Last years 2nd placed Tim Reed is also back racing strongly.
Ironman Australia Port Macquarie and 70.3 Triathlon Course announced
Port Macquarie Hastings Council has announced that the 2011 Ironman Australia course will incorporate a two lap swim, a two lap bike leg and a four lap run. The main changes from previous years being an extension of the bike course which allows a reduction in the laps from 3 to 2, and the moving of the finish chute to Town Green. No doubt many competitors will be secretly relieved that they will have to tackle Matthew Flinders Drive one less time. The other main change will be the simultaneous running of the 70.3 race, which will also finish in Town Green, but will kick off 2hrs 30mins after the start of the ironman.

There are some races that you simply want to win. Tim Reed was pondering why Port Macquarie Half Ironman is so important to him. Like nearly every race in Australia, the prize money is small but there was a much deeper motivation driving him that had him being unusually focused in his preperation for this event. After training with Tim Berkel, Matty White and other experienced professionals in Boulder he saw what sacrifices they would make to ensure that they got to a peak for big events. Mitch Robins on his first big win – The 2010 SiS Half Ironman Port Macquarie
Mitch Robins had his breakthrough major event win at the 2010 SiS Half Ironman in Port Macquarie. He led from start to finish with the fastest times in all three disciplines. Even with a tough head wind for half of the run he still posted a fast 1:17 for the half marathon. Mitch couldn’t stop smiling all day after the win and winning his first major in his home town added to the experience for him.
Mitch Robins wins 2010 SiS Port Macquarie Half Ironman Triathlon
Mitch Robins has taken out the 2010 SiS Port Macquarie Half Ironman from Tim Reed and local hero Tim Berkel for his first pro win in a time of 3:59:09. Mitch’s run was just too fast on on the day and Tim Reed lost just over a minute to Mitch after keeping pace with him in the swim and bike.
