Major League Triathlon is thrilled to announce that the league will return to Avon, CO again in 2018. Avon will host the second event of the 2018 MLT season and it will be held on Saturday, August 4th. The hometown Colorado Peaks will once again play host to the league’s seven other teams.

Major League Triathlon is the first and only professional triathlon league in the United States. Fielding eight mixed-gender teams of four in a relay format, the series hosts races in major triathlon destinations and cities across the country in viewer-friendly venues that brings spectators close to Olympians and world-class athletes as they face off in a gruelling short-course format. Mixed Team Relay was added to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has solidified itself as the future of triathlon

“We could not be more excited to return to Avon in 2018,” Daniel Cassidy, CEO of MLT, said. “The entire Vail Valley is a unique and picturesque part of the world, and Nottingham Park is the perfect setting for Major League Triathlon. Our Colorado event was one of our best ever in 2017 and we look forward to continuing to grow it.”

The eight teams in this professional triathlon league consist of 32 of the best elite triathletes in the world. Each athlete will swim three hundred meters, bike four miles and run one mile in Nottingham Park before tagging their next teammate to complete the same circuit. The first team to have all four athletes cross the finish line will win.

The short and fast-paced nature of the event, a style popularized in Australia, offers a distinct viewer experience as the athletes swim, bike, run and transition directly in front of spectators. Adding to the experience, BEC Tri will host their annual amateur event in conjunction with the MLT weekend. MLT will also host a youth ‘Splash ’n Dash’ event and other ancillary amateur events throughout the weekend.

“The (Town of Avon) Ad Hoc Special Events Committee is excited to welcome MLT back for its second year in Avon.” Said Bobby Bank, Chair of the Town of Avon Ad Hoc Special Events Committee. “MLT’s format is unique and well formatted for Harry A. Nottingham Park. The Committee is particularly excited about MLT including Bec Tri in the weekend festivities. The marriage of Bec Tri, a local tradition, with a professional triathlon ensures the weekend is exciting for athletes at any level.”

This event will be free and open to the general public. Adding to the excitement of professional, youth and amateur races, a vendor expo, festival and concert are planned for post-race entertainment at the Nottingham Performance Pavilion.
