Richie Cunningham & Kate Major Second at Rev3 Portland

Australian Richie Cunningham has grabbed second place in Oregon at the Revolution3 Portland race, behind Kiwi Graham O’Grady in a very exciting finish with just 11 seconds separating the top three. The fast finishing Cunningham was closing rapidly on those in front of him, but just needed the run to go on a little longer to catch O’Grady. “Big Sexy” Chris McDonald finished in 5th place. Kate Major made it a silver day for Australia when she also took out second place in the womens race in 4:23:09 behind Meredith Kessler.

Challenge Roth, Rev 3 Portland, Ironman Switzerland and more – it’s a Big Weekend of Triathlon.

As if the excitement of le Tour was not enough, Australian Triathlon fans are likely to experience some late nights this weekend as they follow a big weekend of Triathlon around the globe. The biggest of these would have to be Challenge’s blue ribbon event, Challenge Roth being held on Sunday. Trying to stop the ‘unbeatable’ Chrissie Wellington getting a hat trick at this event will be Rebekah Keat, fresh off her win at Challenge Cairns, and the ‘unstoppable’ Belinda Granger. Trying to keep the Aussies off the podium will be Scotland’s Catriona Morrison and Heather Gollnick from the US.

Paul Ambrose and Mirinda Carfrae headline Australian challenge on Rhoto Ironman 70.3

Paul Ambrose and Mirinda Carfrae will put Australia in with a very good chance at getting line honours in a talented field at Rhoto Ironman 70.3, Oceanside California on Saturday. They are not the only Australian hopes with Kate Major, Christie Sym and Chris McDonald also hoping to be on the podium this weekend. Mirinda is not only the current Ironman world champion but is also the two-time defending champion at Rhoto.

Richie Cunningham Fourth and Kate Major Second at Rev 3 Triathlon Costa Rica

Australia’s Richie Cunningham has this morning finished 4th at the Rev 3 Triathlon in Costa Rica. The event was won by local athlete Leonardo Chacon ahead of America’s Manny Huerta and Brian Fleischmann. Kate Major was second in the womans race behind America’s Kelly Williamson. Annie Warner rounded out the top three.

Luke Bell wins Ironman 70.3 Cancun Triathlon in a race dominated by Australians

In their final warm up race before Kona, Luke Bell and Luke McKenzie have gone 1 & 2 in Cacun in a race dominated by Australians. Matt White just missed out on a podium finish coming in fourth and Paul Ambrose was not far behind in sixth. Luke Bell’s 1:22 half marathon proved to be the difference on the day. In the women’s race Michellie Jones was 2nd, Kate Major 3rd and Kate Bevilaqua was 4th.
