Dave Matthews and Bree Jones win Round One of the Trishave Sydney Triathlon Series

Racing returned to Kurnell this weekend with round one of the ever popular Sydney Triathlon Series. This season has seen a course change, with competitors once again racing over the original course that took them over a small hill in the scenic National Park before rejoining the course which most would be familiar with around the streets of Kurnell. Conditions were ideal for fast racing, with 22 degrees and very light winds, and no significant tidal currents.

Former Ironman World Champion Michellie Jones and ITU World Number 3 Lisa Norden to headline Sydney Sprint Series at Kurnell

In what is arguably the hottest female field to be assembled at Kurnell in a long time former Ironman World Champion, Olympic silver medallist and two times ITU world champion Michellie Jones, current world ITU number 3 Lisa Norden, Lisa Marangon, Matilda Raynolds, Anel Stewart and up and coming age grouper Laura Siddall will be racing for overall honours on Sunday.

Tri Shave Sydney Triathlon Series Race 2 – Kurnell

The race was significant for a number of reasons. Race Manager Nick Munting had resigned from his position prior to the event and the challenge was there for volunteers, and the Triathlon NSW team, to put the race together while another director for the series is identified. The race was won by the older guard with not one person under 30 taking out the major places overall and Chris McCormack made an appearance.

Kurnell Triathlon 20th Anniversary Race Report

The 20th anniversary of Kurnell triathlons was celebrated on Sunday, 28th November. Some of the top finishers have given their thoughts on the race and how they went. In the woman’s race it was Australia 1-2 and South Africa 3-4. In the men’s race Travis Shields upset favourite Ben Hammond with Mick Maroney only seconds back in 3rd place.
