The men's half of the SiS Port Macquarie half ironman could be won by at least 6 different people this weekend. Adam Holborow, Mitch Robins, Matty White, Ollie Whistler, Tim Berkel and Tim Reed all have the talent to win on Sunday. Matty White is talking himself down but Tim Berkel is having none of that. He ponders the pitfalls of charging headfirst in to altitude training as someone who has just started training full time. Tim tells us why cherry picking is sometimes essential, what it is like to race a triathlon when you are a giant elephant seal in labour, why all the pros need to go overseas to earn a living, what type of sponsor's triathlete you should be and how important it is to have some good mates around.
Tim Reed was one of Australia's hopefuls for the Challenge Copenhagen race, along with a very talented young crew from Grant Giles' Aeromax coaching. Luckily for us this did allow him to report on the race for Trizone and to watch his training partner take all of the glory. Tim takes up the storey: "The guys from Challenge took up the enormous task of putting on an international iron distance race in the heart of a major city...
Australia scored a one two in the womens race with Rebekah Keat comprehensively beating a strong field in Copenhagen, which included her friend and compatriot Belinda Granger who came in second. In the men's race another Aussie favourite, Tim Berkel, took out the men's race ahead of New Zealands Keegan Williams by more than five minutes.
Challenge Copenhagen is scheduled to take place on August 15th, and some of Australia's finest young athletes are preparing to test themselves against Europe's best. In the men's race a group of young Australian athletes who train under Grant Giles of Aeromax coaching will be looking to will be looking to further their reputations on the European circuit. These include Tim Berkel, Tim Reed and, Adam Holborow. Mitch Robins the other member of this gang had also been scheduled to race but is now sidelined through injury. By David Stewart.
