Australians again showed that they are amongst the best long distance triathletes in the world with 6 men in the top ten at Washington in the weekend.

Joe Gambles had a 2nd recently at the Wildflower half ironman and a 1st at the Coles Bay triathlon. Paul Ambrose has had a great season in the USA so far and seems to have plenty left in the tank. Check out the race report from Joe Gambles and Paul Ambrose

Brian Fleischmann of Colorado Springs, led the swim (25:14), ut lost ground to Luke Bell, who took the lead thanks to a 2:13:43 bike split, which seemed to put him in good shape to take his second title here (he last won in 2008). Boulder’s Joe Gambles, after a less than stellar swim, stayed close and came off the bike in second position, posting a bike split just three seconds slower than Bell’s mark. Onto the run, Gambles ran an unmatched 1:14:57 half marathon to overtake Bell (who ran 1:18:18 to finish third) to take the win and defend his title in 3:57:47, 80 seconds ahead of Australia’s Paul Ambrose, who wrestled second from Bell.
