Duffy Wins All 3 Legs in World Triathlon Series WTS Bermuda, Norway Fills Men’s Podium

Flora Duffy won her home turf of Bermuda in year one of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Bermuda. Duffy maintained easy leads in the swim, bike, and run.

USA’s Kirstin Kasper stayed close behind Duffy during the bike, but only briefly. Duffy lost her early, and then continued with a lonely bike and run, all the way to the finish line. The gold winner completed the race in 02:01:39.

Vicky Holland Wins Silver in Photo Finish

The silver medal was up for grabs until the end. A battle between Britain’s Vicky Holland and USA’s Katie Zaferes ended in a photo finish that was called for Holland. Both finished 1:46 behind Duffy.

Katie Zaferes Makes Strong Comeback after WTS Abu Dhabi Bike Crash

Zaferes’ bronze finish marked her big comeback after a bicycle injury in ITU’s WTS Abu Dhabi earlier in the year. Duffy also crashed during the same race and quit after unsuccessfully attempting to fix her chain.

A Career Highlight for Flora Duffy

The sprint distance triathlon was one of Duffy’s favourites. “I don’t think this moment is going to sink in for a while, but what I will say when it does is that this will probably be one of the highlights of my career,” she told Triathlon World. “I mean this is incredible, the streets were lined, and it was just a phenomenal atmosphere, it was incredible.”

Norway Takes Over Men’s Podium, Mola Takes Fourth

Casper Stornes, Kristian Blummenfelt, and Gustav Iden, all of Norway, claimed gold, silver, and bronze in the men’s race. Stornes finished in 01:54:47. The other two finished two seconds apart, roughly 20 seconds behind Stornes. Bluumenfelt was triumphant in the tight race for silver.

Spain’s Mario Mola, the WTS World Champion for two years, settled for fourth. He was the fastest runner in Saturday’s race.

Disappointing Race for Australians

Ryan Bailie and Aaron Royle, both of Australia, had a disappointing race this time around. They made 9^thand 25^thin Bermuda.

Next in line in the series is World Triathlon Yokohama, which will take place on the 12^thand 13^thof May.
