Entries Open For Inaugural Ironman 70.3 Tasmania
Entries are now open for the first-ever IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania, with athletes from across Australia and around the world set to make their way to Hobart to race on Sunday 5 February 2023.
IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will allow athletes to not only breathe in all the stunning region has to offer, but also take on a spectacular and challenging course in and around Hobart. Tasmania features breathtakingly wild landscapes, untamed and seemingly purpose-built for adventure.
Athletes racing at IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will complete a 1.9km swim course in the Derwent River that hugs the historic Battery Point before embarking on a 90km ride with the most vertical gain of any IRONMAN 70.3 bike course in Oceania. The 21.1km run will allow athletes to enjoy some of the best scenery in and around Hobart, with the world-famous IRONMAN 70.3 finish line to be alongside Princes Wharf.
Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of The IRONMAN Group Oceania, said that the event team was looking forward to welcoming athletes to the event in February.
“It’s been great to see the excitement build amongst athletes since we announced IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania, and I’m sure that will further increase with entries opening today,” said Meyer. “This is set to become a bucket list event for athletes from around the world and we can’t wait for the inaugural event next February.
“Our team has worked hard to create an event that will provide an exceptional racing experience while also showing off the region to the more than 1,000 athletes who will be on the start line,” he said. “This is an event not to be missed and I encourage athletes thinking of taking part to snap up their entry soon.
“IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will be a race experience to remember for athletes, their supporters and the local community,” said Meyer. “It’s set to be the southernmost IRONMAN 70.3 event in the world, will include the first indoor transition in the region at Princes Wharf, and will provide numerous opportunities for spectators to get close to the action and experience what IRONMAN 70.3 racing is all about.”
Tasmanian professional triathlete Cameron Wurf is excited to welcome athletes and their supporters to his home state.
“As a proud Tasmanian we are always singing the island’s praises,” said Wurf. “The truth is words cannot express how unique the place is, I travel the world and there’s obviously nowhere on the planet that resembles Tasmania.
“It’ll be fantastic to give the triathlon world an opportunity to see it for them themselves,” he said. “I certainly encourage everyone to bring family and friends, this is a trip that everyone can enjoy, not just the athletes.”
