Everysight, developers of the Raptor augmented reality smart glasses specifically designed for cyclists and triathletes, has announced that it has signed its first brand ambassador partnership with Chris “Macca” McCormack. He is a winner of four triathlon world championships and more than 250 professional racing titles.
The Raptor smart glasses are underpinned by patented technology that its makers has called “BEAM.” It is an AR experience that uses a transparent see-through display that is able to overlay high-resolution information into a user’s line of sight. This information is projected out in front of a user, instead of being displayed close to a user’s eye area, in order to not interfere with a rider’s vision. Users can control the solution a number of ways including a controller that is located on a rider’s handlebars, voice command or a touch pad located on the temples of the headset.
The projection itself delivers real-time information such as navigation, time, distance, speed and heart. The device can also pair with other, external sensors to capture additional data. All this information is then uploaded to a companion app, available on both Android and iOS, and a user can share this on data on social media or also across other third-party apps related to fitness and cycling.
McCormack quit his day job as an accountant in 1996 to devote his time to triathlons, and his storied career has seen him inducted into the Triathlon Hall of Fame in 2013, as well as becoming a best-selling author thanks to his autobiography. Most recently he also co-founded the new Super League Triathlon, an event that sees some of the best triathletes compete in a more TV-friendly format for prize money (some wearing high-tech suits).
In a statement regarding the partnership, McCormack said: “Everysight Raptor is a monumental leap forward that will revolutionize the way we consume and interact with information while training and racing. They are amazing, an absolute game-changer.”
“Macca’s passion for excellence and his relentless drive to be the best in his field is in sync with Everysight’s brand DNA,” Everysight CEO Asaf Ashkenazi said in a statement. “The Raptor AR Smartglasses, is all about harnessing and improving your strength, power, and endurance.”
