Five-time Tour de France champion Miguel Indurian Rides in Triathlon Relay in Madrid

Five-time Tour de France Champion Miguel Indurain competed in his first triathlon event on Saturday, racing in the cycling leg of a triathlon relay at the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Madrid. The legendary Spanish cyclist raced on a team alongside five-time Spanish Olympic
swimmer Maria Pelaez and Spanish fashion designer Modesto Lomba. The team raced to raise awareness and funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which was announced as the official charity partner of ITU at the Series opener in Sydney this April.

“It was a wonderful experience to participate in this spectacular event and to compete with Maria and Modesto,” Indurain said after he finished his 20-kilometre bike ride. “It was a great opportunity to share the goals of Laureus with the other participants and the spectators.”

Indurain is regarded as one of the greatest cyclist of all time, winning five consecutive Tour de France titles from 1991-1995. Indurain also won two Giro d’Italia titles and took home the gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Time Trial in Atlanta.

Indurain is a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, an association of 46 of the greatest living sporting legends from around the world, which seeks to use the power of sport as a tool for social change. Money raised goes to support projects worldwide striving to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged young people.
