Well it is official, USM today put out a press release stating:
“Despite the best efforts of our team we have been unable to secure a venue for the 2011 Gold Coast Half, forcing the cancellation of the event. Our current agreement with Calypso Bay expired in 2010 and unfortunately they decided not to renew the option to stage the event going forward for a number of reasons.
We understand there will be many disappointed competitors, as we at USM Events are, after 13 years of building this event into the success it became. We would like to thank all our loyal customers that have supported the event over the years.
Make sure you still keep the Gold Coast Half event weekend free (NSW Labour Day Long Weekend) as we will soon be announcing another long course event onto our calendar.
In other breaking news, we are pleased to announce the inclusion of a long course event onto the Geelong Multi Sport Festival on Sunday, 12 February 2012 program. The long course will form part of the multitude of triathlon options available to cater for all competitors. Online entries for this event will be opening on 28 JUNE 2011 with limited places available.”
