General entry for the 2012 Ironman Australia event will open this Wednesday, May 11 at 12pm AEST. This years event sold out in just a few hours, and there is no reason to expect this year will be any different. So clear you diaries and make sure the kids are not planning on using the computer at lunchtime, and flex up your typing fingers.

The race date for the 2012 Ironman Australia event has been confirmed as Sunday, May 6.  The general entry fee is $695 AUD while Triathlon Australia members receive a discounted rate of $675.00 AUD (fee includes GST and Active.com service charge).

For Ironman Australia legends (10-time plus finishers), 75 entry places have been set aside, which will be activated only after general entry sells out. Legends are encouraged to enter when general entry opens on Wednesday, with the additional places available for legends that missed out in the event of a rapid sell-out. For more information on this entry method, visit the official event website.

The Ironman Australia event will offer 40 qualifying slots to the 2012 Ford Ironman World Championship, held in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

With the two-lap Ironman bike course confirmed an increased number of Ironman competitors will be accepted into the 2012 event. A decision on whether the Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie will be held in conjunction with Ironman Australia or on a separate day will be announced at a later date.
