2017 a Mediocre Year for Jonny Brownlee
This Elite Men’s race wasn’t his best one. He finished 42nd in 01:55:11. Mario Mola of Spain claimed gold with a finish time of 01:48:15, beating runner-up and fellow Spaniard, Fernando Alarza by eight seconds. Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt came in third three seconds after Alarza.
Brownlee barely missed the podium a few times that year. His only ITU gold medal came from World Triathlon Stockholm. He took silver in Leeds, losing to his brother, Alistair Brownlee, by 12 seconds. Alistair finished in 01:46:51. Alarza came in third 25 seconds after Jonny.
In 2016, he won a larger number of titles through ITU, the Rio Olympics, and the European Triathlon Union (ETU). He won both World Triathlon Edmonton and ETU’s Premium European Cup.
