The International Triathlon Union (ITU) shares the moment a few top triathletes became the first people to hear the announcement that Mixed Relay will become a new sport in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. ITU started the Mixed Relay World Championships to encourage team sports in triathlon. Another goal was to introduce it as a team sport in the Olympics. 2017 became the year the Tokyo Olympics officially adopted it.
