ITU Moments of 2017: Triathlon Mixed Relay Becomes Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sport

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) shares the moment a few top triathletes became the first people to hear the announcement that Mixed Relay will become a new sport in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The video includes Britain’s Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonathan, along with Bermuda’s Flora Duffy and Britain’s Non Stanford.

ITU started the Mixed Relay World Championships to encourage team sports in triathlon. Another goal was to introduce it as a team sport in the Olympics. 2017 became the year the Tokyo Olympics officially adopted it.
