Michelle Wu wins Timex Ironman 70.3 Taiwan 2010

Michelle Wu, fresh from her second place in the Gold Coast Half Ironman a couple in early October has put in one of her best performances in another set of trying conditions. This time is was the wind in Taiwan that proved tough on the day. Not too much though and Michelle edged out Belinda Granger

Trizone spoke to a very happy Michelle two days after her win. “Yes, I am very happy with the win in Taiwan! It was a really tough race and the wind was blowing a gale the entire time! It was a head wind, cross winds and never much of a tailwind! Hence the times were all pretty slow for everyone. It was a tough course too with a choppy and cross current swim, the hilly undulating bike with very rough with bumpy and uneven roads (I lost my front mounted water bottle going over a bump too fast, but picked up another at the aid station thank goodness!). The run which was probably 90% uphill into a headwind! It was a point to point run (start to finish) so it was really hard to know where you were and how far people were in front or behind you. Thankfully it was not too hot. Just very, very windy!”.

Michelle was very positive about the way the race was put together. “It was a very well organised race and the Taiwanese did a great job for a first time event. The resort we all stayed in did a fantastic job of catering for all us athletes and I’m sure everyone had a great weekend!”.

While Michelle’s main focus now is the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship in Phuket on Sunday December 5, 2010 she has confirmed that she will be racing in the Nepean triathlon on November 14.
