Nepean Triathlon – Entries to Australia’s oldest event now open

Entries have opened to the event that claims to be the oldest in Australia’s triathlon calendar – the Penrith Valley Nepean Triathlon. With nearly $10,000 in prize money up for grabs the race counts some of the best amongst it’s previous winners including: Pete Jacobs,  Trent & Leigh Chapman, Luke Harrop, Brad Bevan and Greg Welch. On the womens side Melissa Vanderwater, Jo King, Brittany Orr and Mel Ashton have all taken home the silverware.

This year, a new race concept has been added to the weekend, the Glenmore Park Supersprint and the Billy Baxter’s Bolt. The first finishers in the traditional Nepean triathlon, totalling 30 of the fastest male and female competitors in the race, will qualify to race a second time over a grand prix distance of 300m swim, 8km cycle, 2km run (20% of the Olympic distance) in front of the packed grandstand.

Thirty bike places will be placed in front of the grandstand, with the swim directly in front of the crowd, the cycle featuring a 4 x 2km out and back course and the run being a 4 x 500 metre all in front of the main grandstand. The race will be for the fastest triathletes in the country and will entertain the crowd leading up to the Nepean presentation. Prize money has grown considerably and Nepean is now one of the richest races in the country.
