After moving to the Sunshine Coast in Australia earlier this year to focus on becoming a full-time triathlon professional New Zealand’s Michelle Bremer has made it all worthwhile by winning on debut the 2011 Sunsmart Ironman Western Australia.
Darwin’s Michelle Mitchell overcame a large bike deficit to run a very fast 3:08 and take out second place overall. Chasing down a class act like Carrie Lester must have been very satisfying to Mitchell.
Elly Franks raced well for 4th overall to show that she is getting stronger and stronger as each race goes by.
Bremer did her first race longer than a half ironman in October when she won the inaugural Ultimate Triathlon in Forster. Bremer and husband Clay made many sacrifices, as most pros do, to make Australia home this year. Bremer’s husband will feel today that making the move from his career in NZ was all worth it. After winning Forster Bremer knew what she needed to work on heading in to Ironman Western Australia. Her swim was slightly off pace and she would need to spend more time.
