Quinten De Vos And Meghan Fillnow Claim Victories At 2019 Ironman Maryland

The historic coastal town of Cambridge provided stunning backdrop for athletes from around the world today at the 2019 IRONMAN® Maryland triathlon. Quinten De Vos (Knokke-Heist, Belgium) and Meghan Fillnow (Charlotte, N.C.) prevailed taking the top honors with finish times of 8:46:35 and 9:37:23, respectively.

The 2019 IRONMAN Maryland triathlon saw over 1,800 athletes representing 32 countries, regions and territories plus 66 states start the race. One of more than 40 events in the global IRONMAN Series, athletes took on a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run throughout Cambridge and its surrounding areas. The swim took place in the Choptank River at the newly renamed Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh, while the two-loop bike course went through Dorchester County and into Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. The three-loop run course took athletes through downtown Cambridge with an energetic finish at the historic Long Wharf Park at Great Marsh. The event offered 40 coveted age-group qualifying slots to the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship, taking place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

Only days earlier, the city of Cambridge honored IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman’s long-time race director, the late Gerry Boyle by renaming a city park Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh on Monday, Sept. 23. The 2019 IRONMAN Maryland marked the first time the event was held in the newly dedicated park since Boyles passing.
