Stacked fields for the Boulder 70.3 with plenty of Australian and New Zealand Competitors

The pro fields are stack for the Boulder 70.3 which starts in a couple of hours.

There are too many Aussies and Kiwis to acknowledge in a tweet. New to pro racing is Michael Fox who has had a run of bad luck in the US this season. Let’s hope he has used up all his mechanical dramas and has a clean race today. Joe Gambles is one of the favourites and he should be. Gambles has had a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd in the half distance this season and an 8th at Ironman Melbourne.

Clayton Fettell misfired on his last outing. He went two from two at the start of the US season taking out Mooseman and Kansas after warming up with a 6th at Wildflower. He had an off day at Vineman. Watch Fettell as he will lead from the front in the only way he knows how.

We haven’t seen much of Leon Griffin recently. He race IM OZ this year and swore that was the last. The pain disappeared fast and he was back racing Ironman Cairns. This was a more enjoyable experience. He will be bursting to race well this morning.

Alex Reithmeier is gaining experience in the US this season. He raced the Giant Eagle 5150 last weekend and will be hoping for a stronger hit out this weekend over the longer distance.

Kiwi’s Dylan McNiece and Bryan Rhodes are also racing. McNiece had a great 3rd placing earlier this year at the Singapore 70.3. He is a strong swim/biker over the distance. He should be in the mix. Rhodesy will be looking to Clayton Fettell for as a benchmark for the swim and should be out on the bike right behind him.

In the women’s race we see Melissa Hauschildt racing again. Hauschildt cantered home in a leisurely 1:18 at the Vineman 70.3 after returning from a serious foot injury and racing on virtually zero running over the previous couple of months. She will be dangerous if she can limit the damage her competitors will inflict on her in the swim.

Victorian Madeleine Oldfield is also racing. Oldfield has been racing the Rev3 series this season.
