Tamara Jewett Claims Victory at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside in Dramatic Fashion

Ironman 70.3 Oceanside triathlon kicked off the 2023 North American Ironman 70.3 schedule in Oceanside, California and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.  

In the women's race, Tamara Jewett (CAN) delivered a dominant performance in the run and secured the victory with a time of 4:08:09. Reigning Ironman World Champion Chelsea Sodaro (USA) took second place with a time of 4:09:31, while Kat Matthews (GBR) made a triumphant return to racing by securing third place with a time of 4:12:27.

Setting the pace: Holly Lawrence of Britain took the lead during the swimming section with a time of 24:15. Matthews, who had a horrific collision with a car late last year, exceeded expectations and went into T2 in front.

• “It was a tough race and I felt like my swim and bike went as planned. I had a 30-second penalty which threw me off a bit but I tried to keep calm and composed and it all worked out in the end.”

• Jewett won the race with a time of 4:08:09, followed by Sodaro with 4:09:31, and Matthews with 4:12:27.
• Lawrence clocked 24:15 in the swimming section, while Jewett overcame a 30-second blocking penalty.

Between transition: Matthews made her comeback after recovering from a training accident last fall, while Sodaro competed for the first time since her Kona triumph.
