Triathlon Australia Inducts Emma Moffatt into Hall of Fame

As an Olympic medallist and two-time World Champion, Moffatt takes her place among the sport’s all-time greats, including Emma Snowsill, multiple world champion Greg Welch and two-time world champion and Hawaii Ironman winner Michellie Jones.

Born in Moree, Moffy was the country girl who went from working in a kiosk at her local surf lifesaving club at Woolgoolga to be one of Australia’s greatest triathletes.

Known for her iron determination on the racing course and infectious giggle off it, Moffatt was part of one of Australian sports finest moments on the world stage.

Debuting at her first Olympic Games, Moffatt raced to a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, sharing the podium with her training partner Emma Snowsill, in an iconic moment in Australian triathlon history. In her own eyes it was her greatest achievement in a stellar career.

“Coming away with the bronze medal and Snowy with the gold was something that I never thought would be possible.

“For that moment to be so special, to get a bronze medal, but then have my family and those people close to me there was really amazing. And I think for me, that set a new level of confidence that I carried through the rest of my career and really boosted my results.”

After her incredible Olympic debut and subsequent confidence boost, Moffy then went on to win back-to-back World Championships in 2009 and 2010, dominating proceedings in 2009 with four gold medals and a silver, then landing five podiums to defend that title a year later.

Looking back on Moffatt’s career spanning over a decade, we saw her win two World Championships, along with a multitude of National and World Cup wins, as well as being the first triathlete (alongside Erin Densham) to represent Australia at three Olympic Games in the sport of triathlon.

With a resume of results such as these, and a career so highly regarded among triathletes around the world, it’s no question that Emma Moffatt deserves her place in the Triathlon Australia Hall of Fame.
