The Ultimate Triathlon in Forster sees an inaugural start field of over 500 triathletes. This is a very solid start to this new series but with the crew from Elite Energy behind it and the atmosphere we are all used to at Huskisson Long Course it is inevitable that a large number of athletes would take up this new challenge. All up there will be around 800 entrants racing over all the distances this weekend.
The race takes place over the hallowed grounds of triathlon in Australia. The swim is held in the lake that Australian long course triathletes who have been on the scene for more than the last few years know so well. The 120km bike course heads out over the old Ironman Australia course and the run heads over to Tuncurry and back.
This race is proving to be attractive for athletes preparing for Ironman WA in Busselton and also those wanting a slightly more challenging race without the long recovery required after running 42.2kms at the end of a race.
The race takes place tomorrow and today we will see the NSW Pro Tour as well as the sprint and enticed triathlons. These races on the day before make for a great weekend that allows for a greater participation from other family members and triathletes wanting to be part of a great weekend of racing.
Racing in tomorrow’s Ultimate Triathlon will be Port Macquarie’s Adam Holborow along with Sydney’s Lisa Marangon, Nicole Ward and Elaine Brent amongst other great open athletes. Adam should be the one to beat tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how the race between Lisa and Nicole pans out. Lisa went very well in Yeppoon recently only losing to Michelle Wu on the run. Elaine Brent is a new Kiwi pro who has moved to Sydney to focus on moving up to the next level.. Her first long course arce was Yeppoon so it will be interesting to see how she has improved.
In the NSW Pro Tour Matilda Raynolds should be the one to beat. Matilda would normally be racing Lisa and Nicole over the Olympic and 70.3 distance but at this stage of her season she is not ready to for being competitive over the longer distance. Michael Fox who won the NSW triseries title last season is racing in the Pro Tour along with fellow Shire boys Michael Murphy and Sam Douglas. This should be a good race. You can’t discount any of the other guys that might be in Forster to race.
