The competition is heating up at Ironman Western Australia as athletes complete the 180km bike course and move on to the run leg of the race.

Action Heating Up in Busselton for Ironman Western Australia

Max Neumann and Sarah Crowley lead the men’s and women’s race respectively as they returned to Busselton.

Neumann came off the bike a minute and a half ahead of defending Ironman Western Australia champion Matt Burton with Steve McKenna a further three minutes behind.

Neumann was at the front of the field for the entire 180km ride, with Burton working his way through the pack after coming out of the water in 10th position.

Brisbane’s Sarah Crowley started the bike almost three minutes behind Lotte Wilms, with Crowley slowly chipping away at Wilms’ lead, making her way into first just after the 100km mark.

Crowley powered ahead from there, coming into transition over three and a half minutes ahead of Wilms with Els Visser a further five minutes behind in third.

Athletes are now onto the 42.2km run course, with the finish on the Busselton foreshore.
