It looks like the men’s race at Nepean was an absolute bell ringer with the front three guys needing the run to sort out the final placings. Courtney Atkinson was always going to be a tough challenge on the run. Tim Reed is one of the best around over the 70.3 and Olympic non drafting distances. Reed ran a blistering 32:10 and would have had a lot of fun at one of his most loved races. He loves the old school and Nepean fits that bill.
It is great to see Cameron Good back in Australia after a huge year in the US training with some of the world’s best triathletes. Good would have picked up some amazing knowledge from the D-Squad in Sedona where he was training with Macca and Darren Smith’s crack squad.
Michael Fox, Kieran Roche and Shane Farrant look like they had a solid battle today. Joey Lampe was a bit off on the run. We would normally see Lampe running a lot quicker than 37:22.
Great to see new ITU world AG champ Grant Melzer backing up with a good finish today. Also the Fraser brothers had a very good race although with the younger Bradley taking the bragging rights Cam should get fired up. Peter Walker brought one home for the old boys with a 16th overall. The training for Auckland has obviously paid dividends.
It would be nice to see Trent Chapman take a leaf out of Leigh’s book and pull on his racing shoes. What is the word on this?
The Nethlerland’s Rachel Klamer had a race best swim / run combo to hold Lisa Marangon off and take the win. Klamer finished 6th overall in the Elite women’s race at the ITU world champs in Auckland last weekend. This was always going to be a tough ask for the local women.
Lisa Marangon showed her bike strength once again. Obviously the Athlete Lab in Sydney is proving to be just what the doctor ordered. We are hearing more and more about the benefits of training with power. Lisa is showing the results are proof that quality riding is what you should be looking for.
