Three-time triathlon world champion Craig Alexander is launching a 2011 new year’s training camp, featuring sports science testing, along with theoretical and practical skill development.

The three-day camp will be based at the University of Wollongong, an hour south of Sydney Airport, from January 14 to 16. The camp is open to ages 21 and over with a race completion in the last 12 months (current members of Triathlon Australia offered an exclusive $100 discount).

As a full-time professional athlete for over a decade I’ve been fortunate enough to train with some of the greats in our sport, Alexander said. “Simply by training with these guys (and girls) and asking plenty of questions, I’ve been able to maximise my own performance and win some of the world’s biggest races. I would like to be able to share what I know to help athletes at any level and pass on some of the things I’ve learned throughout my career to spare participants some tough lessons.

This camp will be a unique and personalised experience, providing small group sessions for specialist training and exposing athletes to a scientific component not commonly available, by way of sub-maximal bike and run tests utilising the first-class facilities of the university. It will be an action-packed and fun couple of days and the aim is to walk away with some knowledge and practical tools so that you can continue to improve and enjoy the triathlon lifestyle. I’m looking forward to being heavily involved and being part of the journey for those wanting to get the most out of themselves.”

  • The camp, limited to just 24 people, includes:
  • All meals, including dinner at award-winning Lagoon Seafood Restaurant
  • 2 nights twin share accommodation at Ibis Hotel (single room option available for additional $100)
  • Sub-maximal bike and run testing by the University’s Biomedical Science team
  • Complimentary shuttle bus transfers to and from Sydney Airport at a designated time
  • Tutorial training groups of eight people each to enable specialist swim/ride/run coaching sessions
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Wollongong
  • Lectures, Q & A Session and “War Stories” by Crowie and other guest speakers.

This would make the perfect Christmas present or literally get you off to a flying start in 2011. The all-inclusive cost of $850 for Triathlon Australia members (or $950 for non-TA members)
