Fiji International Long Course Triathlon to debut in 2013
Mark ‘Emo’ Emerton and Mark Stewart from Elite Energy did not make it a secret that they were in Fiji to discuss holding a possible triathlon festival there in 2013. And there was a lot of support for the event online with many people suggesting they will be penciling this in as an end of season holiday.
The details we have so far are that it will be a very similar festival format to the big Huskisson weekend that attracted 4000 competitors this year.
The main race will be a long course 2:80:20 triathlon with supporting events to cater to everyone coming for the holiday. There will be Enticer and Sprint triathlons, a MINIMAN for the little ones and possibly some swimming and running events.
We haven’t confirmed the amount but we are told that there is going to be a decent prize pool well in excess of $20,000 AUD. This is still to be confirmed.
The long course cycle will be held on the Denarau to Nadi roads with the Sheraton Denarau being race central. The run will end beside the pool at the resort.
We are thinking that if you need to sell this to someone and have kids it could be good the MINIMAN or Enticer angle. ‘Great opportunity for the kids to experience and participate in an international sporting event. I might take my bike with me to do a few rides to neutralise the good food and drink…’
