Luke Bell wins Ironman 70.3 Cancun Triathlon in a race dominated by Australians

In their final warm up race before Kona,  Luke Bell and Luke McKenzie have gone 1 & 2 in Cacun in a race dominated by Australians. Matt White just missed out on a podium finish coming in fourth and Paul Ambrose was not far behind in sixth. The two ‘Lukes’ exited the water within three seconds of one another, with McKenzie overcoming the deficit to finish the bike leg four seconds up on Bell. However Luke Bell showed that on the day he had the stronger run and was able to establish nearly a three minute lead over his compatriot by the end of the race.

In the womens race Australians made up three out of the top four places, with a welcome return to form of Michelle Jones, who was the best of the Aussies, closely followed by Kate Major, with Kate Bevilaqua taking out fourth.The race was dominated by Amanda Stevens but all of the Australian’s showed they are hitting form at the right time, and Kona should be very interesting for those ‘down under’ this year.
