Pete Jacobs on his win at the Forster triseries Olympic distance race in the weekend
Pete Jacobs checks in after his win yesterday at Forster on the NSW north coast. After a solid hit out and a good win Pete is looking in good form for the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona. Here he talks about the weekend and how the race panned out plus his 37km 'loosen up' r
Yesterday I won the Forster Triathlon Olympic distance race. It was a huge weekend of sporting events put on by Elite Energy, and the weather was perfect for racing.
I’d had a rest week last week, after a few weeks of solid training following on from Philippines 70.3. I even played 18 holes of golf (in carts) at Horizons, Port Stephens for a mate’s bucks day, and actually played pretty well for not having played in over a year. I think it shows what difference it makes having good core and general conditioning, and being rested, to be able to hit the ball well.
I arrived Saturday night in Forster, and loved not having the pressure of pre race day check-in, like all Ironman races. It was a great relaxed morning, and I loved the beach start.
I ran 50 meters down the beach and got a lead to the first buoy and extended the gap throughout the swim, bike, and run. I pushed hard so I could get a sense of how the bike felt, how I felt, and how I would run off the bike. I felt great off the bike and ran faster than I have run in a while and really enjoyed the opportunity to notch up a fast 10km time (32:06).
I was happy I felt good all the way to the finish line, and although I was a little tight this morning I think that was more because of the poor recovery (sitting in the car for 4 hrs home) than the race being hard on my body. I loosened up on my 37k run today and felt comfortable jogging at a reasonable pace. Now I head to the Dr for a check on my stomach parasite test results, a massage, maybe a quick lie down/sleep, then my fortnightly hour of swim coaching tonight.
Thanks so much to Karl (head TriZoner) for my lift back to Sydney and to my sister for my lift to Forster and race day support.
