Entries to open for Port of Tauranga Half and Craigs Investment Partners Tinman triathlon from 9am tomorrow Tuesday 24th May, 2011. The Tinman has both standard (Olympic distance to everyone outside of NZ) and sprint distance triathlons. Entries start at 9am (NZ Time – UTC/GMT +12 hours) but only for people wanting to take up the ‘combo’ offer of entry in to both races. Standalone entry for the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman starts at 10am (NZ Time – UTC/GMT +12 hours).
On line registration for the 2012 Port of Tauranga Half and the 2011 Craigs Investment Partners Tinman open tomorrow (Tuesday 24 May).
The Craigs Investment Partners Tinman is on Sunday 4 December 2011 and the Port of Tauranga Half is on Saturday 7 January 2012.
The 23rd Port of Tauranga Half will also double as Triathlon New Zealand’s official Long Distance National Championships.
Sport Bay of Plenty, the local sports trust, present both events with the Tinman Triathlon recognised as the traditional season opener and an excellent way to both kick-start the season and for triathletes to test themselves on the Mount Maunganui course used for the Half.
The Port of Tauranga Half, regarded as one of the most popular and premier triathlons in the country, has been quick to sell out in recent years.
“Support of Sport Bay of Plenty events directly contributes to the community and helps keep more people active in the Bay of Plenty,” said Sport Bay of Plenty CEO Wayne Werder.
“Both events are longstanding and proven over more than 20 years. They are iconic both within the Bay of Plenty as sporting events and within the national and international triathlon circles.
“Accordingly we are offering a special limited number of discounted entries for those wishing to participate in both events. This will only be available for one hour from 9am next Tuesday to reward those who are loyal to both events.
“From 10am entries will be open for both events singularly, and we expect there will again be keen interest especially in the Port of Tauranga Half which has filled to capacity quickly in recent years.
“We are humbled by the support in recent times and do not take it for granted. Our contracted organising team under the guidance of Jane Patterson at The Patter continue to work very hard at improving the events every year, ensuring they are professionally run and present outstanding value for money.”
Mr Werder said they were delighted to work closely with Triathlon New Zealand in hosting the national championship which will be the primary selection race for the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champs in Spain next July.
