One of Sydney’s and Australia’s largest triathlon Clubs the Hills Triathlon Club stages a six race series at the Penrith International Regatta Centre where the Nepean Triathlon and Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney is held each year. This facitlity provides the triathlon community with a safe and traffic free environment to stage regular races at.
The 2015/16 Hills Triathlon Club race series is underway with Race 1 held on 4th October 2016. Hot conditions didn’ ’t affect the turn out which saw a record field of 250+ athletes competing. The men’s race was taken out by Emir Mujcinovic (a former Croatian slalom canoer who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics) in 58 minutes and 20 seconds. The women’s race was won by Emily Jamagotchian in 1 hour 9 minutes and 13 seconds. Emir has shown he is a very talented athlete after turning his hand to triathlon and being one of the faster age groupers over the sprint and Olympic distance.
Race 2, which was to be held on 1st November was unfortunately cancelled due to poor weather conditions. However, with four more races on the calendar, including an Enduro format event, there are still plenty of opportunities to participate.
The race series is held at the Penrith International Regatta Centre as is open to anyone who would like to compete in the competitive sprint distance race, dip their toe in the water with the enticer event and a number of junior races. The sprint and enticer races involve a parallel swim along the shoreline of the lake, the bike course is closed to cars and the run course is an accurate 5km 2 lap course.
Entries are still open for Race 3 but it is filling up fast!
The events are open to serious athletes and new people to the sport. Next race details as follows:
- Race 3 – Saturday 12th December – 10am
- Race 4 – Sunday 3rd January – 8am
- Race 5 – Sunday 28th February – 4pm
- Race 6 – Monday 28th March – 8am (Enduro Race)
