Tacx has released a new smart indoor trainer for triathletes, runners, and cyclists. The Magnum Smart’s treadmill allows you to train on your own bicycle and ride on inclines of up to 15 degrees. It doubles as a running treadmill.
The most remarkable thing about this all-in-one trainer is the number of smart features that make it a lot more than a simple treadmill. If you need a good teaser before continuing, here’s one: It even integrates with Zwift.
The Tacx Magnum Smart Indoor Trainer
Uses sensors to track all of your movements and current position. This allows the trainer to adjust the speed and incline accordingly and accurately simulate the ease and freedom of outdoor training. It will detect even minute changes in speed, instantaneously.
Measures your power, cadence, and speed and sends the data to multiple devices. It uses the data to control the belt and to output the data to you via Android, Windows, Mac, or iOS. There is even a handy smartphone holder so you can keep track of the data. It comes equipped with Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ technology.
Lets you change the slope so you can exercise the correct muscles and improve your climbing skills.
Integrates with Zwift, TrainerRoad, and other training software. The ANT+ FE-C protocol allows you to control it with third-party apps.
Allows you to simulate speeds of up to 30km per hour.
Takes you on a journey to the world’s most famous mountains for cycling. This feature is optional. The Magnum Smart trainer comes with a large screen that you can use with the Tacx Cycling App. Your inclines will match the mountain on the screen so that it’s just like being there in real life.
It would be nice, of course, if it talked to you in the voice of KITT in Knight Rider or Hal 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey. If enough of us demand it, maybe they’ll surprise us with an updated model or two. With the above features, it’s still not too shabby.
So far, you can only get the Tacx Magnum Smart trainer at particular outlets in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Also, we chatted with the guy in the know, Shane Miller – aka gplama, and thought it would be best to get this video on our page.
