Xterra Americas Tour Kicks Off with Iceman Triathlon

The big picture: The 2023 Xterra Americas Tour season is starting in two weeks with the Xterra Iceman off-road triathlon in Morristown, Arizona. The event is part of 25 events in five countries and the Caribbean where triathletes can compete for regional championships and qualify for Xterra Worlds in Trentino, Italy.

• Xterra Iceman is the first stop on the Americas Tour
• Triathletes can compete for regional championships, win Xterra USA titles, and qualify for Xterra Worlds
• New in 2023, the Xterra World Performance Index (WPI) will determine Xterra Americas Tour age group champions in each division
• Athletes must start at least three events in the Americas region to be eligible for tour honors
• Two of the stops in the US are part of the Xterra World Cup
• Xterra Puerto Rico and Xterra Quebec will also host events this year

Context: The Xterra World Performance Index (WPI) is a new points scoring system used to rank Xterra athletes at Xterra races. The WPI delivers a score for every finisher at full-distance events on the Americas Tour based on strength and depth of the field, number of participants, and difficulty of the course.

Noteworthy:

• The XTERRA World Cup is a new 7-city global circuit to showcase Xterra's fastest off-road triathletes
• Xterra Quebec will host a silver level event with $7,500USD in prize money for elites
• More than half of the stops on the Americas Tour also offer half and/or full trail marathons that serve as qualifiers for the Xterra Trail Run World Championships
• It's the first time Xterra has offered a qualifier-only World Championship race for trail runners and a new Duo category for two-person teams.
