Bkool launches the Smart Air, a realistic direct-drive indoor smart trainer

The creators of the first smart cycling trainer on the market have once again revolutionised the world of indoor cycling. Their new Smart AIR marks a turning point for direct-drive devices: its resistance unit is suspended in mid-air, acting as the rear wheel on a bicycle.

A few pedal strokes on the bike is all you’ll need to realise how different and revolutionary this concept is. The thing you notice most when you start peddling is a feeling of freedom unlike any other you’ve experienced before on a trainer like this.

Its innovative rocking system and flexible stand let you swing your position on the bike by up to 6º. The rider remains stable, without feeling unsteady even for a moment, and the motion is so natural that it makes you forget you’re on a trainer.

Connected to the Bkool simulator, the riding experience is unique. Its 3000 watts of power allow it to simulate gradients of up to 25%, and make it the most powerful trainer on the market. Trying to climb Alpe d’Huez turns into a challenge that’s within the reach of an elite few. Simulating actual routes doesn’t get any more real than this.

The impressions when going downhill, including the inertial feel, are the same, letting you reach speeds of 70 kph. The real feeling of inertia that you get when you’re on the bike is uncanny, as are the rolling hills between each segment. Never before has a direct drive allowed for such realistic training.

nd best of all, the internal mechanism has been designed to minimise noise. The result is, without a doubt, the most silent trainer in the Bkool line-up and one of the quietest on the market.

The new Smart AIR also features a sophisticated 27-point calibration system at different speeds and power levels. The power is adjusted by means of an innovative system that relies on an infrared sensor that measures the temperature inside the trainer. Its accuracy is surprising when compared to the best power meters on the market, nailing the data for each segment of the workout with a margin of error of barely 2%.

The new Bkool trainer is compatible with all types of 7- to 11-speed Shimano and SRAM cassettes, as well as with all rear hub widths, which covers most of the bikes on the market, both road and mountain. If you have a bike with a Campagnolo groupset, you’ll also be able to use it with a 10- or 11-speed Shimano/SRAM rear cassette.
