Lisa Norden has continued her recent good form with a solid win at the Los Angeles Triathlon finishing almost four minutes ahead of second placed Jodie Stimpson. Norden recently won the rich Hy-Vee triathlon banking USD$151,500 for the victory. Australian Annabel Luxford finished in fourth place but we haven’t seen the splits yet for her. After an injury-plagued start to the season, Norden has had some very good results in ITU recently with a fourth place at the ITU Grand Final in Beijing a week after her Hy-Vee win and a 7th at Yokohama last weekend.
Cameron Dye took out the men’s race with a very fast bike split that gave him the gap he needed to hold out a faster finishing Greg Bennett. After a mishap mid-year when coming into T2 at the Minneapolis Lifetime triathlon where an age grouper took Dye out with 100yds to go he has struggled to pull out those strong bike performances we are used to. Chicago and Hy-Vee both saw him getting passed on the bike after his usual strong swim. So it was good to see Dye smash the bike in this race and go away with a good amount of confidence.
Greg Bennett went hard on the run to try and pull back the lead Dye had created on the bike but at the end of the day he finsihed 45 seconds behind Dye to take second.
Tim Reed raced solidly for sixth overall but is still looking for that extra minute in the swim that he needs to get in with the leaders on the bike. When he finds this he will be hard to stop and will not have to rely on his fast run to get himself up on to the leaderboard. Reed heads home to Australia today after spending the last few months training in Boulder and racing the 5150 series amongst other races. Reed took away a few podiums finishes including a second at Washington DC and a third at New York in the 5150 triathlon series.
Racing also in LA was Matthew Pellow who trains in Wollongong with NSWIS. Pellow finished 12th male pro.
