In this video, International Triathlon Union (ITU) shares the moment when British triathlete Alistair Brownlee won the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds in 2017.
After leaving the World Triathlon Series (WTS) in favour of full distance races, Alistair returned to his hometown to compete one more time. He became the undefeated champion yet again.
Alistair finished in 01:46:51, just 12 seconds before his brother, Jonny, took silver. In third was Fernando Alarza of Spain. The two brothers entered the run leg with a 90-second lead over the nearest competitors. Together, they dominated the entire 5K run.
Alistair also won gold in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Post-Race Statements
Alistair: “It’s kind of dream scenario when there’s only two of you there on the bike. It would nice if we didn’t have to ride quite so hard to get a gap but once the gaps started going up you know you are getting around the course really smoothly and nicely together. To race in my home city, it’s very very special. To win, it’s brilliant.”
Jonny: “I’m pleased but I’m little disappointed. I wanted to win, and if Alistair was going to beat me, that was the way to do it.”
