Australian Clean Sweep – Erin Densham & Anthony McSweeny win ITU Singapore Asian Premium Cup Triathlon

Olympian Erin Densham made a successful return to racing from heart surgery as Australia claimed a pair of clean sweeps to totally dominate a Continental Cup meet in Singapore over the weekend.

Erin Densham - Amy Roberts - Courtney DuttonDensham underwent an operation late last year to treat tachycardia, a condition that sees the heart rate race out of control at times, and has made a steady recovery since.

The ITU Singapore Asian Premium Cup Triathlon was her first Olympic Distance race since and the 25-year-old Victorian handled the hot and humid conditions with aplomb, holding off emerging Queenslander Amy Roberts in a sprint finish.

The pair had earlier formed a lead group with eventual third placegetter Courtney Dutton, with the trio riding and running together for the majority of the race.

Anthony McSweeny emerged victorious in the men’s race, although the tough conditions took their toll even on the winner, with the Queenslander briefly taken to hospital suffering from heat stress. Josh Maeder showed plenty of grit to take the silver medal, while Peter Shockman ran through from the chase pack to claim bronze.
