Following the recent sell outs at Ironman WA and Ironman Australia, Ironman New Zealand  announced that as at 6.00pm on Friday 14th May there are only 200 slots left before the 1500 positions sell out, a first for this race. The event has no doubt been boosted this year by athlettes unable to get into the Australian events as well as the rising popularity of the sport.

“Dear Ironman New Zealand Supporter,

The unprecedented interest in the 2011 Ironman New Zealand continues unabated.

Further to our previous note to you, we can advise that there are now only 200 entries available as of 9am on Friday 14 May (NZ time).

Currently, there are a large number of athletes entered from outside of New Zealand, with the majority from Australia. This follows both December’s Ironman Western Australia and the 2011 Ironman Australia being fully subscribed.

Our current limit on the start line for Ironman New Zealand in Taupo is 1500.

If you have not entered the race, we encourage you to do so to avoid disappointment.

Look forward to seeing you in Taupo on 5 March 2011.”
