Beijing Olympian Erin Densham is set to take part in the Gatorade Triathlon Series finale, the St Kilda Triathlon, at Catani Gardens this Sunday 20th March, 2011.

Densham was the 3rd placed Australian in the Beijing Olympic Triathlon behind Gold and Bronze medalists Emma Snowsill and Emma Moffatt (respectively).

Australia’s own Olympic and World Class triathlete, Emma Snowsill, will also be in attendance.

Densham is set to provide the undefeated and inform Madeleine Oldfield with some tough competition for the first time this season. Joining them will be the talented VIS triathlete Holly Aitken who holds the 2010 Australian Triathlon Championships ITU Junior and U23 titles.

Oldfield raced in the Huskisson long distance triathlon last weekend with a third placing against some great compeititon. She was beaten over the line on the day by Canberra’s Michelle Wu and Sydney/Braidwoods Matilda Raynolds. A couple of weeks prior Madeleine won over the same distance at Falls Creek beating Wu.

In the male elite division, Jimmy Johnsen of Denmark is sure to heat up the field. Johnsen won the ITU Long Distance Championship Series in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Johnsen will go head to head with AIS triathlete and winner of Race 1, Race 2, and Race 5, Brendan Sexton, along with a throng of strong competitors, including ex-AFL footballer Tim Clarke, and VIS triathlete Jamie Huggett.

The St Kilda Triathlon is set to break the record books this year, with 2500 athletes raring to go in Race 6 of Victoria’s premier triathlon series, with the event celebrating its 21st anniversary.

To celebrate, the prize pool for the St Kilda Triathlon has been increased to $5,000 for the elite male and female fields.
The Active Feet Fun Tri, held in conjunction with the Gatorade Triathlon Series, is proving just as popular as beginner triathletes and social competitors make their start in triathlons with the mini race format.
