As predicted by the organisers there was huge interest in the 2012 Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship Melbourne with a message going up on the site saying “…all General Entry places had been accepted…” by 1.05pm AEST, just 5 minutes after registration for the 1,500 places opened. The inaugural Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship will take place in Melbourne, Australia, on March 25, 2012.

This race will be the first-ever Ironman triathlon competition to be held in the Melbourne metropolitan area. The course features a 3.8-kilometre swim in Frankston; a 180-kilometre bike ride on the EastLink Tollway; and a 42.2-kilometre run along Port Philip Bay towards the finish at the St Kilda Baths. 75 Kona qualifiying slots are on offer.
