Weekend Sunrise’s Weather Presenter James Tobin takes on Noosa Triathlon this weekend

James Tobin mentioned on Weekend Sunrise a few months back that he would love to do another triathlon. Trizone and Yahoo!7’s Banzai decided to challenge James to enter the Noosa Triathlon. James was up for the challenge.

First James needed a coach and to get his bike fitted properly. The perfect choice was not far away. Mark Newton, former coach of world champion triathlete Pete Roberston and owner of Jet Cycles in Sydney was more than happy to help out.

James TobinMark set James up with a training plan that, whilst not the sort of lead time Mark would normally be happy with, should get James across the line in a bit more style.

James had previously completed Noosa ten years ago and followed up with racing Nepean but not too seriously. This year he will be stepping up and taking the race on with a proper training schedule. There is even talk of a 70.3 next year.

Earlier this year Sunrise put together a team in the BRW corporate triathlon which is a fairly common entry point for many people in to the addiction we call triathlons. SuperSprint is probably responsible for getting more people in to triathlon through their corporate triathlon series they hold each year. Than any other body in Australia. It was this race that got James thinking about triathlons again.

This weekend’s triathlon in Noosa will be the longest race James has done for almost ten years and he is as nervous as you would expect.

His training has gone well to date with Mark Newton’s guidance. Swimming is the leg that James has to work on the most and with the training he has managed is feeling a lot more confident going in to the race this weekend.
