The organisers of the 2012 Nepean Triathlon have opened entries early to get the jump on the Port Macquarie 70.3 which is being held on the same weekend. With the triathlon calendar getting more crowded than ever in Australia there are some very stressful behind the scenes juggling going on by race directors around the country.

The weekend of the 11/12 February 2012 is another example of what can go wrong with this crowded calendar. In Victoria both the 2XU Falls Creek Long Course Triathlon and the Geelong Multisport Festival being held on the same weekend. Both events have a 2km/80km/20km triathlon which means that Victorians have to choose between the two rather than have the opportunity to race in both during the season.

The 2012 Nepean weekend of triathlon has been set for 27 October (Enticer’s) and 28 October (Nepean Triathlon). The organisers have decided to open entries a lot earlier this year due to the reasons outlined below.

Australia’s longest running triathlon is sure to sell out very quickly this year due to the huge increase in participation levels seen in Australia and globally.

Reason’s for early opening

The organisers have had this weekend listed in the Triathlon NSW calendar for some months to try to ensure clashes with other events are avoided with early planning. Recently they became aware that the Port Macquarie 70.3 race has now moved to the same date as the Nepean Triathlon. Previous checks to ensure there was not a clash with any other race to avoid competitors having to choose between these races looked like this date was good. There are now no other dates available at the Regatta Centre so they need to stay with this weekend. Warwick and Gordon apologise for any inconvenience to their competitors who may have wished to compete in both events. We have opened entries early to allow competitors to plan their race calendar’s accordingly.

The races are staged by an honorary race committee all being seasoned triathletes who wish to keep Australia’s longest running triathlon as a must do race whilst providing the Enticers for those that wish to compete a short course triathlon.

All races will feature cooldry race shirts, unique finisher medallions for all finishers and the chance for Nepean competitors to race with Australia’s elite triathletes. We are again offering great prizemoney in Nepean to ensure the race provides a great opportunity for Australia’s premier triathletes to race. We hope you enjoyed our 30th anniversary race weekend and invite you to come to Nepean again this year.
