Urban Hotel Group signs another Leading Triathlete

Clayton Fettell has signed a sponsorship deal with Australia’s Urban Hotel Group.

The hotel chain already supports a number of prominent athletes including Pete Jacobs, Leon Griffin, Belinda Granger and Tim Berkel.

Ricky Jeffs, Group General Manager of Erdigroup (the owning company of Urban Hotel Group) was happy to announce the signing of Fettell.

“I first noticed Clayton at the 2010 IM 70.3 Geelong race, and I thought wow this guy is flying and leading a very solid field. I have followed Clayton’s progression with great interest since then, and have been impressed with his performances at Challenge Cairns, Port Macquarie 70.3 and Ironman Western Australia,” said Ricky.

The announcement comes just prior to the Geelong 2.80.20 race to be held Sunday, of which Urban Hotel Group are the naming sponsor. Fettell will join an impressive start list competing for the title.

“Urban Hotel Group is all about sponsoring great races, champion athletes and Tri Clubs such as Penrith Institute of Sport (PIS) that add enormous value to their sport. We believe Clayton will one day be crowned Ironman World Champion, and we’re proud to support him in that quest.”

For Fettell the sponsorship is a welcome partnership.

“The guys at Urban are really doing great things for our sport. They are investing in our sport and helping to create fantastic races that help to raise the profile of triathlon not just in Australia but globally. And of course I’m pretty stoked to know that I have such fantastic accommodation for races in Australia. My environment before a race is important and they get that,” said Fettell.

Recently touted by Australia’s Triathlete Magazine as ‘the next big thing’ in long course racing, Clayton has hit the headlines after claiming his first 70.3 title in November, followed by an impressive runner-up finish behind Timo Bracht at Ironman Western Australia.

After the Urban 2.80.20 in Geelong, Fettell will race the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon in early March and Ironman Melbourne three weeks later.
