Bintan Island is only a 45min ferry ride from Singapore with airfares to Singapore starting from very affordable prices. There is still plenty of time to book and go. This would be a great way to get out of the cold weather currently in Australia and have an amazing experience.

There are a number of triathlons in the Asia region now and they all have a unique experience. None more so than the Metaman Bintan triathlon. Flying to to Singapore gives you a different experience and the option to explore Singapore either before or after the triathlon. This is a great way to have your family and friends who are not racing alongside you experiencing a great holiday.

Trizone will be there and we look forward to seeing you there. We’ll be covering the race and photographing as many of you as possible.

Bintan Island or Negeri Segantang Lada is an island in the Riau archipelago of Indonesia. It is part of the Riau Islands province, the capital of which, Tanjung Pinang, lies in the island’s south and is the island’s main community.

Bintan’s land area is 2,402.28 square kilometres (927.53 sq mi) (total area is 60,057 square kilometres (23,188 sq mi) including 96% sea area).[5] Its administrative region is designated the Bintan Island Regency, one of the six administrative regions of the Riau Islands province. The city of Tanjung Pinang is an autonomous area within the Bintan Island.

Bintan’s history is traced to the early 3rd century. The island flourished as a trading post on the route between China and India, and over the centuries it came under the control of the Chinese, the British, and then the Dutch when it was declared part of the Dutch East Indies through the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824. In the 12th century, the Bintan island in the Strait of Malacca was known as the “Pirate Island” since the Malay pirates used to loot trading ships sailing in these waters.

Singapore, the closest major city, is a 45-50 minute trip by motorised catamaran across the Singapore Strait from Bintan Resort area in the northwest of the island. The island has beaches with beach-front International hotels and resorts; the most prominent of these beaches is the Bintan Resorts set over an area of 300 hectares (740 acres) of tropical environment. The archipelago of the Riau islands is right opposite to this resort across the South China Sea. Indonesia is promoting Bintan as the next best tourist destination after Bali.

About the race…

The beauty of the MetaMan course itself starts with the swim. Set in the crystal clear and calm waters of the South China Sea, the first loop of the swim course is set within the sheltered bay of Nirwana Gardens,

with the second loop taking the athletes on a portion supported by favorable currents (East to West) . Athletes of the half-iron distance only perform the second loop (see map below). MetaMan Blitz will have an even shorter swim but still enjoy crossing from one bay to the other, which is the beauty of that swim. With water temperatures averaging 29 degrees Celsius.

Situated less than an hour away via comfortable catamarans from the modern and culturally vibrant city of Singapore, Bintan Resorts is located on the largest of Indonesia’s enchanting Riau islands in the South China Sea.

Bintan provides an experience of endless beaches, a wide variety of international-class resorts, and tropical holiday activities, including golf, spas, water sports.

Combining a visit of Singapore and Bintan gives the gives you the best of both world: a vibrant city and beautiful beach holiday.
