“We have been working closely with Triathlon Australia and Triathlon Queensland as well as the relevant councils for approval on these events for a number months now,” said The Event Crew Director, Brendon Downey.

The Event Crew Pty Ltd are coming into their fourth season of owning and operating the Gatorade Qld Tri Series. Whilst the series has such as strong history in Queensland, they have built it up to Australia’s biggest triathlon series. The successful bid for the events will also contribute to a boost in participant numbers in the next two seasons.

“It’s empowering for our local Gold Coast company to be endorsed by Triathlon Australia and Triathlon Queensland. We are excited to continue to deliver world class events and to add even more reasons for people from all over Australia to come and take part in our events throughout South East Queensland,” said Downey.

With the Commonwealth Games approaching in 2018, it is high on the City of Gold Coast’s agenda to attract sports events and athletes to the Gold Coast.

“This announcement continues our city’s focus as a major events destination and I welcome the athletes and officials to the Tri Series race in January,” said City of Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate.

One such event is Race 2 of the Australian Junior Triathlon Series which will be held at Robina on Saturday 9th January, 2015.

Craig Redman, National Manager of the High Performance Pathway with Triathlon Australia, said having an event on the Gold Coast is an excellent for the development of Australia’s top junior athletes.

“The weather of the Gold Coast in January will no doubt be hot; however, this will perfectly mimic that of Mexico where the ITU World Triathlon Championships will be held in 2016,” said Redman.

“Triathlon Australia’s High Performance Centre of Excellence is based on the Gold Coast, so it will be a good opportunity for the athletes to tie in some training and acclimatisation with the event”

“It also presents opportunities not just for the athletes, but for the state junior development coaches to meet with Triathlon Australia High Performance Pathway coaches & staff to further develop both their and their athletes skill progressions, set in such an iconic destination for racing,” commented Redman.
