Junior talent set to shine at Runaway Bay

Over 150 athletes, including a handful of interstate representatives will come together on the Gold Coast this weekend for three days of racing at the Super Sprint Race Weekend (SSRW) in Runaway Bay, Queensland.

Featuring single discipline time trials, an aquathlon and super sprint racing, the SSRW presents junior and youth athletes with their first opportunity this season to test their skills against their peers.

Reigning Junior Girls champions Tara Sosinski (QLD) and Chloe Batup (ACT) will be ones to watch in the Junior Girls competition this weekend, with the pair going head to head for the first time this season. While rising star Eva Parish (QLD) will make her Junior Girls debut off the back of outstanding performances earlier this year.

Aspen Anderson (QLD) and Mia Wooldridge (QLD) will also be ones to watch in the Youth Girls competition after dominant performances at Runaway Bay in 2019.

Tasmania’s Ethan Stretton and Western Australia’s Mitchell Westhuizen will be leading the charge for the visitors. Taking advantage of relaxed border restrictions, they will be making the journey to the sunshine state alongside a handful of other interstate athletes where they will meet the likes of senior Queensland athletes such as Harry Ladd, Harry King and Brad Course on the starting line. Up and coming athlete Peyton Craig will also make his debut in the Junior Boys competition after strong performances across his 19/20 season in the Youth Boys division.

This weekend’s events also mark the first of three rounds of the Australian Junior and Youth Triathlon Series (AJYTS). With the focus firmly on athlete development and racing opportunities during the 2020/21 Series, we’re looking forward to an exciting weekend of racing.

The Super Sprint Race Weekend will take place at Runaway Bay from December 10 to December 13.
